Private Advisory Sessions
One decision, properly examined.
A half-day or a full day of Anthony's attention to the question in front of you, for private buyers and the advisers who sit beside them. A fixed fee agreed in advance, and a written summary you can act on. A session stands on its own, with its own scope and fee.
- Fixed fee
- Covers the agreed preparation, the time together and a written summary, all settled in advance
- Scope first
- The question is agreed in writing before anything is read, so you know what the session will address
- A record you can use
- Conclusions, open questions and next steps in writing, ready to hand to your own advisers
- Master
- Captain Anthony Austin holds the UK MCA Master Mariner Unlimited qualification and gives you his own judgement on the question
What a session can cover
A defined question, and a considered answer
Most sessions begin at one of four moments. If yours is not among them, it is still worth asking. The first conversation is private and carries no obligation.
01
Ownership plans
How you intend to use the yacht, where she will cruise, who will be aboard and how she will be operated, tested against what you are considering. Settled before a listing is opened, or before an offer is made.
02
A shortlisted yacht
Whether a particular vessel fits the intended use, the operating profile and what you expect of ownership, measured against your plans and the way she will be used.
03
Viewing attendance
We attend with you, or prepare you beforehand: the questions, the spaces and the practical details that deserve attention, so the visit is spent examining her.
04
A review of survey findings
How technical findings affect suitability, negotiation and the decision to proceed: what is routine, what is material, and what belongs in the price and what is only a footnote.
What to expect
Agreed first, then examined
We agree the preparation, the time together and the written follow-up in advance, for one fixed fee.
- Preparation, agreed first. What the session will address, and what it will not, is settled in writing before work begins. Specifications, survey packs, yard or management proposals and crew documents are then read with care by Anthony before the session.
- A half-day or full day together. The material is read in advance, so the time is spent on the decision. In person where it is useful, remotely where it is not.
- A written summary. Conclusions, the questions that remain open and the next steps we would recommend, written so it can go straight to your lawyers, bankers or family office.
A half-day suits a single question about one yacht or document. A full day suits several connected documents and decisions. We will tell you which the decision actually needs.
Is a session the right level?
Right-sized to the decision
The right level of involvement depends on what you need. If a session is not it, we will say so in the first conversation.
A session fits when
- You have one question, one yacht or one decision in front of you.
- You want Anthony's judgement for a defined period, such as a half-day or a full day.
- You want a written summary to act on, or to take to your own advisers.
Another level may suit you better
- You want support with a particular task over an agreed period, such as inspection preparation or a package of findings: a Defined Consultancy Project.
- You would like Anthony to act as your buyer's broker, from the brief through to handover: Full Buyer Representation. You can move to it after a session if you decide you want it.
The limits, stated plainly
What a session leaves to others
A session gives you Anthony's judgement on a decision. It works alongside the specialists who carry out the formal work, and I will say when one is needed.
- A session reads a survey and helps you understand what it means for the decision. The survey itself stays with your appointed surveyor.
- A session can say whether an asking price sits in the right territory. A formal valuation comes from a qualified valuer.
- A session does not include searching for yachts or negotiating a purchase. If you later want that, Anthony can act as your buyer's broker under the full mandate, with remuneration explained and agreed in writing before you appoint.
Questions
What people ask before booking a session
What is a private advisory session?
A half-day or full day of Anthony's attention to an agreed question or decision. Sessions can cover ownership plans, a shortlisted yacht, viewing attendance or a review of survey findings. The preparation, time together and written follow-up are agreed in advance.
How do I choose between a half-day and a full day?
A half-day suits a single question about one yacht or document. A full day suits several connected documents and decisions that depend on one another. The scope is settled in the first conversation, and we will tell you which the decision actually needs.
How is a session charged?
As a fixed fee covering the agreed preparation, attendance and a written summary. The fee is agreed in advance, and exact figures are sent directly on request.
What do I receive afterwards?
A concise written summary of the conclusions, the questions that remain open and the next steps we would recommend, written so it can go straight to your lawyers, bankers or family office.
Does a session replace a survey or a valuation?
No. A session reads a survey and helps you understand it, but the survey stays with your appointed surveyor. It can say whether an asking price sits in the right territory, but a formal valuation comes from a qualified valuer. Where either is needed I will say so.
Do I need to appoint Anthony as my buyer's broker to book a session?
No. A session is a separately scoped piece of work with its own fee, and it can be all you need. If you later decide you would like a buyer's broker for the whole purchase, Anthony can act in that role, and what has been examined in the session is a useful starting point.
What if I need more than a session?
A Defined Consultancy Project covers a specific piece of work over an agreed period. If you later want Anthony to act as your buyer's broker, Full Buyer Representation takes the purchase from the first brief to handover. Each service has its own scope, and its remuneration is explained and agreed in writing before you appoint.

Bring us the decision you are considering
We will confirm what level of support the question needs before you commit to anything. Some of these conversations end with us telling someone they do not need a session at all.
