Private Yacht Buyer Advisory
Independent judgement throughout the journey
Captain-led, independent advice for private yacht buyers and the advisers who support them.
I can assist you throughout the 3 stages of the Buyer Journey. At each stage, I apply the Austin Method, my framework for analysing how a yacht matches your intended use, to provide the independent judgement needed to make informed decisions before momentum begins to shape the outcome.
One adviser throughout the buying process
Anthony Austin Yachts provides independent, captain-led guidance from defining the ownership brief through yacht assessment, viewings, sea trials, due diligence, completion and transition into ownership.
The Buyer Journey
A three-stage journey from first discussions to confident ownership
At every stage, I apply the Austin Method to assess how a given yacht fits your intended use, not a fixed checklist, but a considered analysis of the yacht against your ownership brief.
Stage 1
Clarify how the yacht will actually be used, establish the ownership brief and assess potential candidates before the search gathers momentum.
Define the Right Yacht
Stage 2
View, Compare and Sea Trial
Prepare for and attend viewings and sea trials, examine practical suitability and help the buyer compare shortlisted yachts with greater objectivity.
Purchase and Transition
Stage 3
Support the buyer through survey findings, specialist coordination, purchase decisions, completion, handover and preparation for ownership.
Independent advice that complements the existing team
Yacht purchases involve brokers, surveyors, lawyers, insurers, tax advisers, managers and technical specialists. Each has an important and distinct role.
Anthony Austin Yachts adds an independent operational perspective, using the Austin Method to help the buyer understand how the yacht, specialist findings and intended ownership plans fit together in practice.
The role is not to replace established advisers, but to help the buyer ask better questions, recognise material trade-offs and reach a clearer overall decision.

Frequently Asked Questions
Buying a yacht involves more than finding the right specification. Here are some of the questions private buyers and their trusted advisers raise before we begin.
-
The Austin Method is the analytical framework I use to assess how a yacht matches a buyer's actual needs, their intended use, guest requirements, operating model and ownership brief, rather than a generic checklist or sales process. Developed from nearly 20 years of professional maritime experience, it's applied at every stage of the Buyer Journey: defining the right yacht, viewings and sea trials, due diligence, purchase and transition into ownership. Its purpose is to keep every decision grounded in how the yacht will actually be used, protecting the buyer's time, capital and intended ownership experience.
-
An independent yacht buyer adviser helps the buyer define what the yacht must realistically do, assess suitable options, compare shortlisted yachts and make informed decisions throughout the purchase. Anthony Austin Yachts supports clients through the initial brief, viewings, sea trials, due diligence, survey findings, purchase and transition into ownership.
-
Yacht brokers play an important role in sourcing yachts, presenting opportunities and negotiating transactions. My role is different. I am appointed and paid directly by the buyer to provide independent, captain-led judgement. I do not sell yachts or receive commission from the seller or listing broker, allowing me to recommend proceeding, renegotiating or walking away.
-
Ideally, independent advice begins before a shortlist has been formed or significant time has been invested in a particular yacht. This allows the ownership brief, intended cruising, guest requirements, operating model and realistic financial commitment to shape the search. I can also become involved later when a buyer needs an independent view before a viewing, offer, survey or purchase decision.
-
Yes. Anthony Austin Yachts is based in the United Kingdom and supports private buyers considering yachts in the UK, Europe, the United States and other international markets. Advice can begin remotely, with travel arranged for shortlisted yacht viewings, sea trials and other important stages of the purchase where required.
-
Advisory fees are agreed directly with the client before each stage begins and reflect the scope, complexity, time and travel involved. The service is not funded by a percentage of the yacht’s sale price or by commission from the seller. Any travel, surveys, legal advice or other specialist costs are identified and agreed separately.

You can contact me directly through the website or by email at anthony@anthonyaustin.yachts. Initial discussions are private and without obligation, giving us an opportunity to understand where you are in the buyer journey, the type of yacht you are considering and whether independent advice would be useful.
