Stage 3

Purchase and transition

Once a preferred yacht has been identified, I remain alongside the buyer through survey findings, specialist discussions, purchase decisions, completion and handover.

The aim is to keep the wider ownership decision clear while the transaction becomes more detailed.

The most important decisions often come after the yacht has been chosen

Selecting a preferred yacht is not the end of the decision. Survey findings, repair requirements, legal and technical advice, insurance conditions and operational planning can all materially affect whether the purchase still makes sense.

Stage 3 helps the buyer understand how those different findings fit together before proceeding to completion.

Preparing for completion

Reduce avoidable surprises before handover

Outstanding works
Which items should be completed before handover, and which can be planned afterwards.

Crew and management
Whether the intended crewing, management and operational arrangements are ready.

Insurance and compliance
Whether outstanding requirements from insurers, flag, class or other specialists have been addressed.

Berthing and cruising plans
Where the yacht will be based, how it will be moved and what must be ready for the first period of use.

Documentation and handover
What records, manuals, inventories, certificates and operational information should be transferred.

Handover and transition

Move from buyer to owner with a clear plan

The first weeks of ownership can reveal gaps that were not obvious during the purchase.

I help the buyer prepare priorities for the handover period, understand immediate operational requirements and establish a practical plan for the first season.

The objective is not simply to complete the transaction, but to begin ownership with greater clarity and fewer avoidable surprises.

What the buyer leaves with
A clearer route into ownership

By the end of Stage 3, the buyer should have:

  • a joined-up understanding of survey and specialist findings;

  • a clearer view of immediate and deferred work;

  • a practical basis for deciding whether to proceed;

  • a completion and handover plan;

  • clearer priorities for the first period of ownership.
