Stage 2

View, compare, sea-trial

Once credible candidates have been identified, the focus moves from the listing to the yacht itself.

I help the buyer prepare for and attend viewings and sea trials, testing how each yacht works in practice rather than relying on presentation alone.

A viewing should answer more than whether the yacht looks impressive

A yacht may present beautifully and still be wrong for the buyer.

Layout, privacy, movement through the yacht, guest comfort, crew operation, noise, storage and access to machinery can all affect the ownership experience. Stage 2 brings those practical questions into the viewing before momentum begins to build around a particular yacht.

During the viewing

Assess the yacht as an ownership proposition

During the viewing, I consider how the yacht fits the agreed ownership brief.

Layout and movement
How owners, guests and crew move through the yacht, and whether circulation works without compromising privacy.

Accommodation and comfort
Cabin arrangements, headroom, storage, access, noise and the practical experience of spending time onboard.

Decks and outdoor living
How the yacht supports anchoring, entertaining, swimming, tender operations and normal family use.

Crew and operation
Whether the layout, systems and working areas support the intended crewing model.

Machinery and access
Whether technical spaces, maintenance access and system arrangements appear consistent with the buyer’s expectations.

Visible condition
Areas that may justify closer technical investigation before progressing further.

Comparing shortlisted yachts

Keep the decision anchored to the brief

When several yachts are under consideration, I help the buyer compare them against the same practical criteria.

The aim is not to declare a winner too early, but to make the differences clearer: where one yacht offers stronger privacy, another may offer easier operation, better access, lower complexity or a more suitable layout.

A structured comparison helps prevent the most recently viewed or best-presented yacht from becoming the default choice.

What the buyer leaves with
A clearer view of which yacht deserves to progress

By the end of Stage 2, the buyer should have:

  • a structured record of each viewing;

  • a clearer comparison of shortlisted yachts;

  • identified questions and areas requiring specialist investigation;

  • a better understanding of practical suitability;

  • a recommendation on whether to progress, pause or walk away.
