Independent advice throughout the yacht-buying journey
Captain-led guidance for private buyers, from defining the ownership brief through assessment, purchase and transition into ownership.
Who the service is for
For private buyers who want an independent, practical view alongside the broker, lawyer, surveyor and other specialists involved in the purchase. The aim is to help bring those different strands together and keep the decision focused on whether the yacht is genuinely right for the buyer.
The Buyer Journey
Stage 1
Define the right yacht
Before the search gathers momentum, I help establish how the yacht must work in real ownership: where it will cruise, who will use it, how it will be operated and what level of complexity is genuinely comfortable.
Potential yachts can then be tested against that brief, helping the buyer refine the shortlist and avoid spending time on vessels that look right but do not fit the intended use.
Stage 2
View, compare and sea trial
Once credible candidates have been identified, the focus moves from the listing to the yacht itself. I prepare for and attend viewings and sea trials, considering layout, privacy, comfort, condition and operational practicality from the buyer’s perspective.
The aim is to compare each yacht as an ownership proposition, not simply judge how well it has been presented for sale.
Stage 3
Purchase and transition
When a preferred yacht has been selected, I remain alongside the buyer through survey findings, specialist discussions, purchase decisions, completion and handover.
My role is to bring the different findings together, understand their practical effect on ownership and prepare for a smoother transition from buyer to owner.
Start at the point you need support
Some clients engage before beginning a search. Others have already identified a yacht, arranged a viewing or reached the survey stage. The engagement can begin at the point where independent guidance is needed, while retaining the benefit of a joined-up view of the wider purchase.
Working alongside the existing team
I work alongside the broker, surveyor, lawyer, insurer and other specialists involved in the purchase, adding an independent operational perspective and helping the buyer bring the different findings together into one clear decision.
