Sea Trial Advisory

A sea trial is one of the most important moments in the yacht buying process. It is where the yacht moves from presentation to performance, and where comfort, handling, noise, vibration, systems behaviour and operational reality start to become clear.

Anthony Austin Yachts provides independent, captain-led sea trial advisory for private buyers who want practical support before, during and after a yacht sea trial.

This is not a survey, and it does not replace the role of a qualified marine surveyor, engineer, broker or captain appointed by the seller. It is a practical layer of independent support focused on helping the buyer understand what they are seeing, hearing and experiencing while the yacht is underway.

When to involve us

Involve us before or during a sea trial when you want independent support to help you understand how the yacht behaves, feels and performs underway.

Confidence Underway

We provide calm, captain-led support during the sea trial, helping you assess handling, comfort, noise, vibration, visibility and the practical realities of using the yacht at sea.

Next steps

If you are preparing for a yacht sea trial, send a private enquiry with the yacht details, location, proposed sea trial date and the support you are looking for.

How we support you

Before the sea trial, we review the yacht, the available information, the intended use and any concerns already identified during viewing, shortlist review or survey preparation.

We help clarify what the sea trial should demonstrate, what questions should be asked, and which areas should be observed carefully once the yacht is underway.

During the sea trial, we support the buyer from a practical, captain-led perspective. This may include attention to handling, engine response, noise, vibration, steering behaviour, visibility, helm position, deck movement, comfort, crew operation, machinery spaces, tender arrangements, access, safety and general onboard usability.

After the sea trial, we provide a clear debrief. We help identify what appeared positive, what deserves further questioning, and what may need to be raised with the broker, surveyor, engineer or seller before the buyer proceeds.

Understand the Yacht Underway

If you are preparing for a yacht sea trial and want independent, captain-led support, we can help you assess how the yacht handles, feels and performs before you move towards the next stage.
